In Context : [ About My work on medicinal plants, insects and mites ]

India is known for its rich biodiversity (Please refer: http://www.herb.com/new-oud.html). Many valuable medicinal and aromatic plants, insects and mites have been reported in India. I have been working on medicinal and aromatic plants for over 10 years now. As a first year student of B.Sc (Agriculture), my main interests were weeds and Homoeopathy. Studying Homoeopathy, I noted that many weeds are used in the preparation of Homoeopathic drugs. I began studying the common plants in the surroundings and their potential uses ( Please refer: http://www.teriin.org/terragreen/issue33/feature.htm#f1   ). As a result of extensive survey and in-depth study, I am today in a position to identify medicinal and aromatic plants of India. My survey has made me travel extensively throughout India, covering almost every forest of India. Most of my research work on medicinal plants is published. Please refer the publication list @ http://www.celestine-india.com/pankajoudhia/po_publ.htm .

Weeds are always considered as unwanted plants. Weeds compete with field crops for light, moisture and nutrients and harbour harmful diseases and insects. Ancient Indian literature mentions that every plant on this earth is useful for human beings, animals and even other plants. It is by pure ignorance that we humans have classified some plants as useful and others as weeds. http://botanical.com/site/column_poudhia/poudhia_index.html   . Many of my studies [conducted by me along with the Department of Agronomy, Indira Gandhi Agricultural University, Raipur (India) ], have revealed that weeds are a boon to farmers. Farmers can earn an additional income by collecting and selling different parts of weeds in national and international medicinal-drug markets with the help of village level co-operative societies. I consider this self employment opportunity as my humble gift to the poor Indian Farmer. This, an innovative concept of weed utilization.

I am assisting many Indian farmers engaged in commercial cultivation of rare medicinal plants. One of my clients is Mr. K. S. Khurana, Director - Sahaj Sasyadi Pvt. Ltd., A Raipur based herb company. I am working on almost all aspects of Indian herbs particularly those found in the Bastar District and Amarkantak Forests. At Sahaj Sasyadi Pvt. Ltd., I am deeply involved in 17 projects encompassing collection of herbs, processing and marketing. Sahaj Sasyadi Pvt. Ltd http://www.kisanokeliye.com   is in the process of establishing India's #.1 Herb Laboratory. Mr. Rajaram Tripathi, acclaimed to be the world's # 1 Safed Moosli (Chlorophytum borivilianum) grower has been an esteemed client of mine for some time now. I have been associated with Mr. Rajaram Tripathi as a technical consultant.  Please refer:

Mr.Tripathi is cultivating this crop in more than 45 acres of land. His company, Maa Danteshwari Herbal Products Pvt. As a technical consultant in the area of medicinal herbs, I endeavour to help make medicinal herb business a profitable one for a host of my farmer and businessmen clients. I've feel honoured to be associated with the well known web-site http://www.botanical.com  , for which I also write a  column. The message board at Botanical.com has a huge amount of information about herbs (Please refer http://www.botanical.com/cgi-bin/robboard2/index.cgi   ). Professional Herbalists are also available for consultation.  Please refer http://botanical.com/site/column_poudhia/poudhia_index.html. Ancient Indian literature also mentions that insects and mites also possess medicinal properties. In line with these writings, I commenced research and ethnozoological surveys on "medicinal uses of insects & mites" in 1996. My studies have yeilded critical information about medicinal uses of about 500 common insects and mites

A concept that I sincerely believe in is: "By collecting these so called harmful insects and mites infesting field crops, farmers can not only save crops from insects and mites but also earn additional income". Some Indian and International journals have published the findings of my research (explaining this innovative concept) in this work area.I am certain that the entire world will appreciate the potential of this concept. I consider the following self employment opportunity as my humble gift to the poor Indian Farmer. This, an innovative concept of weed utilization.
